A synagogue was built on the outskirts of Windesheim on the “Waldhilbersheimer Straße” during the second half of the 19th Century. Prior to this time, a prayer room most likely existed in one of the Jewish homes.
This place of worship was desecrated during the “Reichspogromnacht” (Night of broken glass) in 1938 and compulsorily sold to a private individual a few days later.
The synagogue was supposed to have been put under protection as a historical building in 1982, but, as per state agency documents, it was torn down that very year because of "the level of disrepair discovered during the restoration process".
