The Jewish community had been gathering in a rented building in back of the guest house „Zur Krone“ since the 1870s.
A new synagogue financed by donations form the overall population was built and ceremoniously dedicated in 1888.
During the “Reichspogromnacht” (Night of broken glass) in 1938, SA henchmen forced their way into the synagogue, demolished the interior, burnt the benches and threw the ritual objects out into the street. Albeit the structure was not set on fire because it was built directly onto the neighbouring house. In 1939, the Jewish community was forced to sell the synagogue for merely a pittance.
Ultimately, the building sat idle until 1950 when it was torn down. A movie theatre sits on the property today.
